Surveys - Creating a survey

This document describes how to access the survey builder and the basics of using it.

Where can I find surveys?

Surveys are found in the Visual Editor. As part of your variation, head into Widgets and you'll find it in the menu:

Alongside some options, you'll find the Launch Survey Creator button which will launch the creator interface

Note that the creator if empty will default to an NPS survey, giving you a starting point. Feel free to delete questions if not relevant.

Once you've finished designing your survey, click the Close button - this will update the stored blocks of code, which will find it's way into your experience code:

Component parts of a Survey

Each survey is built into pages. The pages contain either questions, or panels (sections) of questions.

At the end of the survey, you'll have a thank-you page, with an option to auto-close the survey 1 second after submission.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see my changes while building the survey?

Yes. The builder interface itself matches the aesthetic of what we deliver to users, but you'll find a preview tab at the top. And, once you save your widget, you'll see the survey in-situ.

Can I AB Test my survey?

Yes. Create as many variations as you want, and you can add/create surveys in each one. Once done, you'll be able to compare the effectiveness of your survey concepts, and see which is the best one to run with.

Can I use a survey as part of my AB Test?

Yes. In Optimize, delivering a survey is just a change you're making. It's included in the no-code widget builder as a means of delivering templated experiences to the page. You can mix and match with other Widgets, WYSIWYG changes, and your own Javascript/CSS code.

Will be site's theme intefere with the survey?

This is very unlikely. We run the surveys in a dedicated frame, so that styles and context don't leak across in either direction. This is the safest approach we've found to making this kind of a change.
